UPCOMING SOCIAL EVENTS !

Everyone is welcome: siblings, grandparents, helpers, and especially moms and dads!

We are always looking for hosts for the monthly events; all hosts are subsidized $50 by Twins Plus to help defray the costs of refreshments. If you would like to host one of the next monthly gatherings, please e-mail us at Twins@twinsplussing.com.

BABES & TODDLERS' PLAYGROUP

We've a Playgroup for babes & kids under 1 & "moms-to-be" (2008/09/10). This group usually meets at the home of 1 of the moms to make it convenient for nursing moms and sleeping babies!
Joy-marie, a mom of 3 - Kieran (May 06) & boy/girl twins - Craig & Astrid (Mar 08), is our Coordinator for this group.
Come and share the joy of having twins and more by contacting her at Joymarie@twinsplussing.com!

Multiples born in 2007 still meet regularly - thanks to Priyanka who is tirelessly coordinating this group. Priyanka has identical twin boys - Rahul & Rishab (Apr 07)! To know more about their activities, contact Priyanka@twinsplussing.com!

If you're not sure which Playgroup to join - try them! Each kid has its own developmental milestones, and especially towards the end of the 1st year, you may find yourself more comfortable going out to playgrounds with them than staying indoors.

SUPPORT GROUPS

2 support groups were launched in 2007 thanks to 2 of our super-mums:

The Preemies Support Group was initiated by Sasha as she felt that more could be done to support mums who have premature babies. Having 4 kids including twins born at only 28 weeks gestation, she knows what she is talking about!

The After-ART Support Group (ART stands for Assisted Reproductive Techniques) was proposed by Megan after a few mums approached her with typical questions one may have after a successful fertility treatment.

Both groups have their own mailing lists so parents can exchange questions about the respective subject.

Here is what Sasha & Megan say about their groups:

PREEMIES

Having a premature baby is by no-one's standard a ‘normal’ thing to do, what more when they are twins. As a mother of premature twins born at 29 weeks, Sasha learnt that unless someone has been through the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), they will never fully understand what she experienced during & after the ordeal. It can be an extremely emotional journey especially if there’s lack of support & information available.

Her aim is to provide support for everyone affected by a premature birth: parents, siblings, family members & friends. So she’s setting up this support group within Twins Plus, especially for our members who are parents &/or parents-to-be of premature twins. She simply wants to provide a haven where information & first-hand preemie knowledge is easily accessible & also to give encouragement & support for our preemie parents. She also understands that sometimes you need to let off steam & that's what this support group is for!

For a start, she aims to meet at least once a month for coffee-sessions to get to know preemie parents better & to discuss issues on caring for our preemie twins during & after the NICU, raising & parenting preemies as well as tackling preemie issues like medical conditions, developmental delays, etc.

*****

After-ART

Megan had at least 6 people discussing the issues related to the “after-IVF” with her. Normal IVF support groups could lead you to attitudes like “Oh! You have 2 (or 3)! You should be grateful”, hence her idea for this group within Twins Plus.

1. An IVF pregnancy with multiples leads to a higher incidence of Post Natal Depression as the confusion of the long awaited babies and the sheer enormity of multiples takes over

2. Of late there is a much higher incidence of unexpected natural pregnancy post the birth of IVF twins (usually occurring within the first 6 months!)

3. People tend to worry about whether they should cycle again now they have babies and how to cope with the treatment

4. What to do with the frozen embryos when you already have several children.
